What is a Dental Hygienist?

A Dental Hygienist is a specially trained member of the dental team who work together with the dentists to provide a full range of dental care. She plays an important role in oral health, by providing individualised preventive treatment and demonstrating correct home care to patients to prevent dental disease.

Dental Hygienists perform a range of clinical duties, including:

Review of medical history. Many medical conditions and medications, can influence the planned treatment

  • Oral health education
  • Dietary advice which helps to prevent dental disease
  • Scaling and polishing of teeth
  • Local analgesia application
  • Dental radiography
  • Impression taking
  • Diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease including ozone application.
  • Fissure sealants application and more
