Signs and symptoms of TMJ

woman-with-a-headache.jpg

Approximately 40 percent of all healthy individuals suffer from chronic headaches, and 1 in 8 people suffer from headaches so severe that they cannot function normally.

Most chronic headaches are of muscular origin, coming from an imbalance in the structures of the head, neck and jaw joints. But TMJ Syndrome is also the cause of many other symptoms.

If you have any combination of the following complaints, you may be suffering from TMJ Syndrome:

  • headaches and migraines

  • painful jaw joints

  • clicking or popping noises when opening or closing the jaw

  • difficulty chewing hard foods

  • inability to open the mouth fully

  • locking of the jaw joint

  • clenching or grinding the teeth at night (bruxism)

  • excessive wear on the teeth

  • dizziness, vertigo and/or lightheadedness

  • tinnitus, ringing, buzzing, or clogged ears

  • earache with no sign of infection

  • spasm and/or tightening in the back of the neck, shoulders, or face

  • pain behind the eyes

  • sinus pain.

At Lotus Dental we take a holistic approach to find the underlying cause of your pain, using neuromuscular techniques for diagnosis and treatment.
